NHS 8th Annual Halloween Fest

The National Honor Society at Olympia High School hosted the 8th annual Halloween Fest this past Sunday. National Honor Society is a chosen group of junior and senior students that set high academic standards and impact the community with service projects. This year there are about 50 high school students, with advisors Mrs. Lisa Steve and Mrs. Amanda Hapgood.

The Olympia District was glad to bring back Halloween Fest after the break of events from Covid last year. This gathers students and brings the Olympia community together as a whole. The event keeps getting bigger and bigger each year. Now, over 500 guests came through Halloween Fest on Sunday. Halloween Fest is by donation only to the NHS. Then, the NHS uses these donations for the Angel Tree. This program provides Christmas gifts to the Olympia students in need all over the district.

Months before, NHS students and leaders started planning for Halloween Fest. There were five separate committees for each area. First, the publicity committee made flyers, social media posts, and advertisements for Halloween Fest. They focused on the elementary schools in the Olympia District, but anyone was welcome. Another group made a Haunted House that was optional for the children, adults, and families to go through. These NHS students got to act like clowns, zombies, killers, vampires, and more. They had way too much fun with this hallway! A different group made crafts of coloring pages, princess crowns, superhero belts, leaf puppets, foam pumpkins, and rock painting. A few students also volunteered to do face painting and artificial tattoos for the children. Another big piece of artwork was the Thankful Tree wall. Everyone that attended could write what they were thankful for on a leaf and attach it to the tree. In the gym, many games were set up, including a bouncy house. At each game, the children were able to win candy and prizes. Finally, an outdoor fall station was set up. One of the parents volunteered to give hayrack rides with his tractor and trailer. Then, the farm students also brought in 9 animals and goats to make a petting zoo.

Every child and worker that attended Halloween Fest had a blast! So much creativity and preparation were taken by these high school students. Thank you, National Honor Society and the Olympia District, for creating engaging events for the community.
